Kung-Fu Dinner, Numero Tres
Ah, the "your mom" joke... When I was in college, I picked up this particular method of, er, "humor" from my friend Keith who lives down in Pennsylvania.
The rules are fairly simple. Person A says something, then Person B escalates it by taking a noun from the original statement and returning it to Person A in the form of "I'll give you a _____!"
Here's where it gets interesting. Person A (or perhaps Person C) escalates it further by taking that same noun and replying in the form of "I gave your mom a ______ last night!"
There was a time when this was, sadly, one of the most popular jokes amongst my circle of friends. We were at this day and night, coming up with every godawful variation of it we could think of. "I gave your mom a rare steak last night!" "I drove your mom to the bank last night!"
Someone even came up with "I did not enter your mom last night!" after seeing a "Do Not Enter" sign at the bank.
In any case, it eventually faded from favor, though occasionally, someone will resurrect it for nostalgia's sake. Still, immediately after I finished last week's strip, I knew that this joke was where this week's strip was going to go.
If you're wondering how much longer this will go on: exactly two strips, which will come in quick succession so we can all get back to the more standard absurdity you all crave from "Olympus Mans."

I got your mom back to the more standard absurdity!

ReplyDeleteAnd, for the record, it was usually more of the form...
Person A: hey, can you [verb] the [noun]?
Person B: I'll [verb] you!
Person A/C: I [verb]'d your mom last night.
I'm quite confident Julie started the "I'll [verb] you!" response. The rest must have been by you hooligans after we'd graduated.
